Maia 1st Brazilian woman in 55 yrs to reach Grand Slam quarters

Tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia became the first Brazilian woman in 55 years to reach a Grand Slam’s quarter-finals, after entering French Open 2023 quarter-finals following a triumph against Sara Tormo. Maria Bueno was the last Brazilian woman to reach quarter-finals at a major, achieving this milestone in 1968. Maia beat Tormo in French Open’s third longest women’s match.
