Indian Army dog who died to save soldiers’ lives last month gets gallantry award

Indian Army’s assault dog Axel who had died in the line of duty has been awarded the ‘Mention in Despatches’ gallantry award on India’s 76th Independence Day. The 2-year-old Belgian Malinois was shot thrice during a counter-terror operation in J&K last month. He died while carrying out a risky room intervention thereby saving soldiers’ lives.
