Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an average hike of around 12 percent in the country’s immigration fees for all permanent residency applications. The hike charges will be applicable from April 30, 2024. The IRCC revises the fee every two years and the last hike was in April 2022 although it was a meagre 3 percent. The authorities this time have hiked the fee considerably. The new rates according to authorities is based on the cumulative percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index released by Statistics Canada during the previous two years (2022 and 2023), rounded to the nearest five dollars. As per the new rates, anybody seeking an express entry to the country will have to pay $575 as a right of permanent residence fees in addition to $950 processing fees. As per the latest orders all permanent residence applicants, with the exception of dependent children and protected individuals, are exempted from paying the Right of Permanent Residence Fee. Similarly principal applicants in the “humanitarian and compassionate” and “public policy” categories are excluded from paying the Right of Permanent Residence Fee under specified conditions. The “Permit Holder” class cannot include accompanying family members in their permanent residency applications. These individuals will have to submit their own applications as principal applicants.
