New NASA director swears oath on ‘Pale Blue Dot’ instead of Bible

Makenzie Lystrup, the first woman director of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, took her oath using a copy of Carl Sagan’s book ‘Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space’ instead of the Bible. The 1994 book, inspired by a photograph of Earth by Voyager 1, outlines Sagan’s vision for humanity’s future in space.
