A public health emergency has been declared in New York City as monkeypox continues to spread. The city has been labelled as the ‘epicentre’ of the outbreak. Eric Adams, New York City Mayor, has said as many as 1,50,000 residents could be at the risk of contracting monkeypox. New York recorded 1,345 cases as of Friday, California recorded 799 cases.
