Ludhiana: Two armed men robbed a city-based couple of their car at Amritsar-Ludhiana national highway, near Mannawala of Amritsar rural, on Sunday night.
Kulwinder Singh, 47, an optician and resident of Vrindavan Road, said, “My wife Gaganpreet Kaur, 45, and I had gone to Amritsar on Sunday to drop our son who is pursuing MBBS there. On the way home, we stopped at Golden Temple. After crossing Mannawala toll plaza, we pulled over at an eating joint. I parked the car outside and went in. My wife was sitting in the car, which was not locked, when two men armed with pistols came there. They entered the car, asked her to step out and threatened to shoot her. She asked them to take her jewellery and cash and not shoot her. But they kept asking her to leave the car. They then fired a gunshot, which fortunately did not hit her.”
Meanwhile, Kulwinder came out of the eating joint and rushed towards the car. “As I tried to stop them, they fired at me and escaped with the car. I have received a splinter injury on my foot,” he added.
Amritsar rural senior superintendent of police Deepak Hilori said, “The robbers fired two rounds. An FIR has been lodged. On Monday, the car was traced to Tarn Taran. We have identified the accused. Soon, they will be in police custody.”
