The Gemini North telescope in Hawai’i captured a brilliant image of a pair of spiral galaxies, NGC 4568 and NGC 4567, merging into one another. Both the galaxies that are entangled in their mutual gravitational fields may eventually combine to form a single elliptical galaxy in around 500 million years. The cosmic collision took place approximately 60 million light-years away.
